Overview
Primarily responsible for the overall artistic product of Top Chops 15-20 parade performances throughout the summer season (most falling in June and early July), while committed to the personal growth and performance quality of each individual member. Must also work with the organization leadership on strategies to recruit the best potential members.
Responsibilities:
Parade Program
•Oversees the music selection, performance quality and entertainment value of the parade routines for Top Chops.
•Manage all rehearsal schedules to ensure maximized use of time to meet performance goals.
•Create a short concert program featuring a Top Chops ensemble performance, as well as a short combined performance with Chopstix and Hot Chops.
•Work to increase the long-term demand from parade officials of Chops, Inc. and specifically Top Chops.
•Assigning (hiring) of a member-captain to run pre-parade warm-ups and act as a backup instructor.
•Accept direction from the Program Coordinator and regularly communicate to the Program Coordinator on the ensemble’s progress, challenges, accomplishments, and any needed outside resources.
Membership Recruiting
•Recruit new marching members through personal contacts.
•Work with the Marketing Manager on the content and image of Top Chops for all recruiting campaigns.
•Make regular recommendations to the Board of Directors on ways to maximize recruiting potential.
Member Instruction and Growth
•Provide membership a positive educational experience by leading by example.
•Institute instructional methods to maximize individual member performance quality as well as the overall ensemble.
Requirements
•Experienced in managing to process of producing an entertaining brass performance routine.
•Strong communications skills with all types of individuals from staff to parents of corps members.
•Adhere to and enforce the rules and expectations of the Chops Member Handbook.
•Positive motivator to members of all ages.
•Available to rehearse the ensemble in preparation for parade performances with as much or as little rehearsal time deemed necessary, but with a minimum of five (5) rehearsals between March and May, each being approximately eight (8) hours in length.
•Able to attend the first parade performance of the season, as well as a minimum of four (4) other parade performances throughout the remainder of the season to be used as opportunities to clean and maintain the high level of expected performance quality.
